Azerbaijan Research Education Network Association

azrenaAzerbaijan Research Education Network Association (AZRENA) is a national membership organization that promotes the development of Azerbaijan’s research and education networking infrastructure. AZRENA was established in 2006 with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan. The Association is currently headed by its founding president, Dr. Ramiz Aliguliyev.

In 1995 a network of Academician institutes was created in Azerbaijan. It was the only non-commercial network in the Azerbaijan Republic connecting the major government organizations, institutions and academician institutes.

From 1995 to 2000 the academician network connected all the main buildings of the academy via fiber-optic and leased lines. The central node of the academy had the leased line 64kbps to the local ISP.

AZRENA’s mission is to facilitate the development of Azerbaijan’s research and education network infrastructure and services in order to support the country’s economic and social development. To achieve this, AZRENA works closely with government agencies, universities, research institutes, and private companies.

In August of 2000, the National Academy of Sciences and leading universities of Azerbaijan were founded on the basis of the Academician network Azerbaijan Research Educational Network Association – AzRENA. This Association is a non-governmental organization.


AZRENA is a member of the Eurasian Partnership on Internet Governance (EPIG) and the Caucasus Internet Governance Forum (CIGF).
